The notification will take effect on October 24, 2026.
In a post on X, IndiGo thanked Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for the decision and expressed hope that other states would consider similar measures amid elevated aviation fuel costs.
“We sincerely thank the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Goa, @DrPramodPSawant, for the progressive decision to rationalise VAT on Aviation Turbine Fuel in the state,” the airline said.
“This is a welcome move towards strengthening the aviation ecosystem, enhancing air connectivity and supporting Goa’s vibrant tourism sector,” it added.
IndiGo linked its appeal for similar measures elsewhere to the need to make flying more accessible for passengers.
“We hope this progressive approach inspires others to consider similar measures, particularly at a time when ATF costs remain high, to help make air travel more accessible for customers,” the airline said.
The government notification, issued by the Department of Finance (Revenue and Control) on October 23, substitutes the existing entry at serial number two in Schedule C of the state's VAT legislation.
The revised entry prescribes a 7 per cent rate for “Aviation Turbine Fuel other than covered by entry (1) above,” retaining a distinction between this category and fuel covered under the preceding entry.
Signed by Under Secretary Finance (Revenue and Control) Naresh Gaude, the notification was issued by order and in the name of the Governor of Goa.
IndiGo also thanked the chief minister for his continued commitment to aviation growth. While the airline highlighted the potential benefits for connectivity, tourism and accessibility, its statement did not announce any corresponding change in ticket prices. However, it said the liquidity infusion appeared difficult to reconcile with the central bank's emphasis on controlling inflation.
The report also pointed to the RBI's decision to cancel all Treasury bill auctions, suggesting that markets could interpret the measures as attempts to fine-tune movements in bond yields.
Despite these steps, SBI expects Indian government bond yields to remain elevated. The report said yields were unlikely to decline even as US Treasury yields had fallen below 5 per cent, citing expectations of elevated crude oil prices and developments in global bond markets.
SBI said the spread between Indian government securities and US Treasury yields had reached 250 basis points and was moving towards normalisation. It added that elevated crude oil prices could prevent domestic yields from declining.
The report also highlighted the RBI's changing emphasis in its assessment of economic risks. According to SBI, the October MPC minutes placed greater emphasis on external conditions and financial stability than the August minutes, while giving less emphasis to liquidity and monetary policy transmission.
SBI said this reflected the RBI's increased awareness of threats to external stability arising from widening geopolitical conflicts, even as inflation concerns remained central to the decision to tighten monetary policy.
On the broader policy approach, SBI argued that the RBI should avoid managing liquidity through simultaneous injections and withdrawals.
"We believe, while concerns on financial stability may have played a part, but it is better for RBI to stay away from two-way liquidity management policy of both injection and withdrawal simultaneously," the report said.
Instead, SBI continued to advocate widening the Liquidity Adjustment Facility (LAF) corridor, arguing that it could act as an automatic stabiliser during periods of uncertainty. Demonstrating their shared commitment to environmental sustainability, GCU and the University of York exchanged an MoU at a special Networking Dinner in Bengaluru held in the presence of Mayor David Skaith, Shri Sharath Bache Gowda, MLA, Hoskote and GCU Chancellor Dr. Joseph V.G, to establish the proposed Bio-Resource Centre of Excellence at GCU’s Hoskote campus. The MoU, sets out the ambition to accelerate research into green technology and sustainable agriculture. The new MoU sets out the intent to begin a pilot study focused on anaerobic digestion and waste recovery systems, led by Professor James Chong, Director of the Centre of Excellence for Anaerobic Digestion (CEAD) - a research centre established between the University of York and Yorkshire Water.
Renewable energy
Anaerobic digestion turns waste materials into renewable energy and nutrient-rich fertiliser and is seen as a crucial technology to increase the sustainability of industry and reduce carbon emissions. The new project will create technologies that are optimised for their location, making them suitable for both British and Indian environments, and test them to recover more energy from waste, such as food waste, wastewaters, and animal slurries.
York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority (YNYCA) aims to use research from the trial to support its broader strategy to become a carbon-negative region.
Shared challenge
Professor James Chong, Director of CEAD and Head of the University of York’s Department of Biology, said: "Turning waste into energy is a shared challenge for Yorkshire and for fast-growing regions like Karnataka.
“Our BioYorkshire initiative in the UK, alongside partners in Bengaluru, can work together to set up a real-world testing facility, providing us with a comparison of these challenges across two countries.
“This should then give us evidence on how well anaerobic digestion technologies perform and what they cost, giving businesses, governments, and investors in both countries the confidence to scale-up clean energy solutions."
Civic engagement
Partners will work to expand high-growth sectors, including agri-tech and clean energy, whilst establishing more regular engagement between civic leaders, industry and academics in both regions.
GCU in Bengaluru has recently opened a new campus at Hoskote to the east of the city, where the pilot study will be hosted, and the University will support York experts in exploring the wider applications of anaerobic digestion research in Karnataka.
The engagement was anchored by a high-level meeting with Shri Priyank Kharge, Minister of Home Affairs, IT and BT, Government of Karnataka, attended by the visiting Mayoral delegation led by Mr. David Skaith, Mayor of York and North Yorkshire, alongside senior leadership from both universities. The meeting advanced a Letter of Intent (LoI) with the Government of Karnataka, positioning the University of York and its strategic local partner GCU at the center of bilateral research, tech translation, and regional cooperation.
Unveiling a World-Class Sporting Facility: The GCU Oval
As part of the official delegation visit, Mayor David Skaith joined the grand inauguration of the GCU Oval, Garden City University’s state-of-the-art cricket facility situated at its Student Knowledge Park in Hoskote. Designed to international standards, the world class ground will serve as a premier platform for cultivating athletic excellence, hosting fixtures, and bridging classroom learning with professional sports development.
Under the three-year Statement of Intent signed by Ms. Joan Concannon (University of York) and Dr. Christo Joseph (GCU):
- University, college, and grassroots cricket teams from Bengaluru and Yorkshire will participate in reciprocal training tours, competitive exposure, and friendly fixtures.
- Both institutions will develop joint programmes and short courses in sports science, sports analytics, sports management, and event operations.
Grassroots player and coaching development pathways will be established in collaboration with regional cricket foundations and sporting bodies across Karnataka and Yorkshire.
Leadership Perspectives
Mr. David Skaith, Mayor of York and North Yorkshire:
“Our meetings in Bengaluru from fruitful discussions with Minister Shri Priyank Kharge to visiting Garden City University demonstrate the tremendous potential of regional collaboration. Whether through shared sporting passions on the cricket pitch or pioneering clean-energy solutions, connecting Yorkshire and Karnataka creates lasting value for our communities, students, and economies.”
Mr. Sharath Bache Gowda, Member of Legislative Assembly, Government of Karnataka
“I really didn’t think that when we met less than a year ago, we’d be standing here formalising an agreement between Garden City University and the University of York. It’s a true testament to the dedication of Joseph Sir, who has spent the past two decades building a vision for a university. Today, on about 100 acres, he has created a university that I’m sure will become a landmark not just in Karnataka or India, but across the world. Through free scholarships and affordable programmes, Garden City University is working to make education accessible to everyone, especially those at the bottom of the pyramid. While we must work at the bottom of the pyramid, we must also work at the top—and that is what we are doing with Garden City University.”
Dr. Joseph V.G., Chancellor, Garden City University:
“Inaugurating the world-class GCU Oval and establishing our strategic partnership with the University of York, supported by our engagements with the Government of Karnataka and Mayor David Skaith, is a landmark moment. From converting waste to clean energy at our proposed Bio-Resource Centre to offering global pathways in sports science and cricket, this partnership connects higher education directly to societal and economic impact.”
Ms. Joan Concannon, Member of the University Executive Board, University of York:
“The University of York is proud to collaborate with Garden City University and engage closely with the Government of Karnataka. Sport, research translation, and sustainability provide exceptional avenues for international cooperation, creating tangible opportunities for student mobility, joint research, and deep UK–India institutional ties.”
Dr. Christo Joseph, FRSA, Director – Strategy and Planning, Garden City University:
"International partnerships must produce tangible outcomes that touch lives. Through our engagement with Minister Shri Priyank Kharge, the inauguration of our world-class GCU Oval, and our collaborative work on bio-resources with the University of York, we are actively turning academic vision into practical impact for Karnataka and beyond."
(ADVERTORIAL DISCLAIMER: The above press release has been provided by VMPL. However, the regulator clarified that the broader requirement to maintain records of client interactions will continue to apply.
“The purpose of the records of the client interaction is to document the interaction to cater to potential client grievances related to research services provided by the RA/ research entity. Hence, RAs/ research entities shall ensure compliance with the provision for maintenance of records of interactions for all their clients,” it said, adding, “requirement to maintain call recordings of interactions with clients which are institutional investors shall not be mandatory.”
SEBI further clarified that call recordings are not required where client interactions take place through communication channels such as email, for which a digital footprint is already available.
The regulator also specified that record-maintenance requirements apply to both fee-paying and non-fee-paying clients receiving research services as a value-added offering alongside other paid services.
As per the revised provisions, records must be maintained from the first interaction with a client until the completion of research services.
Research analysts and research entities are required to preserve these records for five years. However, “in case where dispute has been raised, such records shall be kept till resolution of the dispute or if SEBI desires that specific records be preserved, then such records shall be kept till further intimation from SEBI.”
SEBI has directed the Research Analysts Administration and Supervisory Body (RAASB) to make necessary changes to its rules to implement the circular. It has also asked the body to inform all registered research analysts about the revised norms and publish the details on its website.
“The provisions of this circular shall come into effect from November 08, 2026,” it said. (Photo-ANI)" title="Dev Garg, Vice President of IREF. (Photo-ANI)">
New Delhi [India], October 23 (ANI): The Indian Rice Exporters' Federation (IREF) expects memorandums of understanding (MoUs) worth more than Rs 50,000 crore to be signed at the Bharat International Rice Conference (BIRC) 2026, as the event brings together rice exporters and international buyers amid concerns over falling global production, rising fuel costs and shipping disruptions.
Dev Garg, Vice President of IREF, told ANI in an exclusive conversation that the organisation expects business commitments at this year's conference to exceed those recorded during the previous edition.
"Last year we signed MOUs worth 32,000 crores. I'm quite sure that this year that figure will cross more than 50,000 crores," Garg said.
He added that the final business figures would become clearer by the end of the three-day conference, which opened at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on Friday.
"This year, we have lined up more than 2,000 B2B meetings. All these B2B meetings will be recorded, and the feedback will be observed," he said.
The conference has recorded 32,467 registrations, including 4,856 buyers from 153 countries. The event aims to help Indian rice exporters explore new markets, assess the global rice price outlook for 2027 and identify opportunities to improve returns across the industry.
Highlighting the scale of participation, Garg said the event had attracted people from across India and overseas.
"More than 32,000 people from 153 countries and, most importantly, the people who are visiting this conference from India. More than 92 per cent of them are from outside Delhi," he said.
However, the rice industry faces several challenges that could affect production, trade and prices in the coming months.
Garg said global rice production was expected to decline, citing estimates from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
"The USDA had estimated that the rice production of the world will fall from 545 million metric tons to 533 million metric tons. That is a fall of nearly 12 million tons," he said.
According to Garg, India could account for 7 million tonnes of the expected decline in global production. He described the projected fall in India's paddy crop as a major concern for the industry.
The sector is also dealing with disruptions to shipping routes amid the West Asian crisis and rising fuel prices, he said. Changes in import policies, including higher tariffs and restrictions in some countries, have added to exporters' concerns.
Garg said these challenges would be discussed during the conference as industry participants assess the outlook for international rice prices and export demand.
Despite the headwinds, he expressed confidence in the industry's long-term prospects.
"But all I can say is that in spite of these challenges, we have a bright future ahead," he said.
BIRC 2026, which opened at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on Friday, is a three-day event, organised by the Indian Rice Exporters' Federation (IREF). It brings together Indian rice exporters and international buyers to explore new markets, assess the global rice price outlook for 2027 and identify opportunities to improve returns across the industry.
It features nine knowledge sessions and discussions on key industry issues, including global rice prices and ways to improve returns for participants across the rice value chain. For those who have worked hard to create a life of comfort and financial independence, the next chapter can be about more than a beautiful home. It can be about having the freedom to pursue personal interests, enjoy exceptional hospitality, cultivate meaningful friendships and make time for experiences that everyday responsibilities often leave little room for.
It is this vision that underpins Amaya Senior Living, a luxury, hospitality-led residential community being developed by Vera Vita Living LLP in Hyderabad. Conceived for discerning individuals seeking a more enriching approach to retirement, Amaya brings together the privacy of an independent residence, the ease of professionally managed services and the opportunities of an active, socially engaging lifestyle.
Located in Medchal, alongside the 700-acre Kandlakoya Reserve Forest, Amaya is designed as a residential destination where thoughtful design, natural surroundings and curated experiences come together to create a distinctive way of living. At its heart is a simple proposition: the privileges of a well-appointed home, complemented by the conveniences of luxury hospitality and the freedom to make the most of every day. In a conventional residence, dining, housekeeping, maintenance, recreation and other everyday requirements often need to be organised separately. At Amaya, these elements are brought together within a professionally managed community, allowing residents to spend less time coordinating the practicalities of daily life and more time enjoying it. Residents will have access to a range of services, including professionally managed dining, housekeeping, concierge assistance, maintenance, security and lifestyle support. Designed to complement independent living rather than replace it, these services offer convenience and peace of mind while preserving the privacy and autonomy of each resident.
The centrepiece of the community is Club Amaya, a 35,000 sq. ft. private lifestyle clubhouse designed as the social, cultural and recreational heart of the development. With more than 100 curated amenities, the clubhouse brings together dining and social spaces, fitness and wellness facilities, a library, creative arts studios, recreational areas, therapy facilities and a dedicated performance and events hall.
A typical day might begin with a walk through landscaped gardens, followed by yoga or a fitness session and a leisurely breakfast. The afternoon could be spent exploring a creative pursuit, reading or meeting friends, while the evening might bring a cultural programme, a special dinner or an informal gathering. At Amaya, such experiences are envisioned as an integral part of everyday life, rather than activities that require separate planning or travel across the city.
Beyond amenities, the value of a community lies in the quality of the connections it makes possible. Amaya is designed to bring together like-minded individuals who share an appreciation for an active, fulfilling and independent lifestyle. Opportunities for shared interests, conversations, cultural engagement and new friendships coexist with the freedom to choose one's own pace, routine and degree of participation.
The residences reflect this philosophy through contemporary architecture, considered layouts and thoughtfully integrated senior-friendly features. Offering configurations from one-bedroom to 3.5-bedroom homes, with areas ranging from approximately 953 sq. ft. to 2,456 sq. ft., the residential offering combines the comfort and sophistication of premium housing with an emphasis on accessibility, safety and ease of use. Natural light, spacious interiors and contemporary aesthetics further contribute to an environment designed for long-term comfort.
The setting adds another dimension to the experience. Adjoining the Kandlakoya Reserve Forest, Amaya combines landscaped gardens, open spaces and a natural backdrop with connectivity to Hyderabad's urban infrastructure through the Outer Ring Road. The result is a setting that offers a sense of retreat without disconnecting residents from the city, its healthcare facilities or its wider social and cultural life.
Wellness and healthcare are integrated into the community as essential support systems, while independent living remains central to the experience. Planned services include access to a resident doctor, round-the-clock nursing assistance, physiotherapy, emergency-response support and coordination for specialist medical consultations. The intention is to provide reassurance and access to professional assistance without allowing healthcare to define the character of everyday life.
Recognising the importance of family and friendships, Amaya also incorporates guest accommodation and hospitality facilities for visiting relatives and friends. These provisions allow residents to welcome loved ones comfortably and enjoy time together, without the demands of hosting becoming an added responsibility.
Mr. Arudradev Rao, Co-founder of Vera Vita Living LLP, said: “For many people, a lifetime of hard work has been about creating a comfortable home, financial security and opportunities for their families. Retirement presents a different opportunity: the freedom to devote more time to themselves, their interests and the experiences they value. At Amaya, we are bringing together considered residential design, luxury hospitality, wellness and a vibrant community to make that possible. Our vision is to create a place where independence is complemented by convenience, where every day offers something to look forward to, and where retirement is embraced as an exciting new chapter.”
Founded by Arudradev Rao, Dhruv Badruka and Tanay Saboo, Vera Vita Living LLP aims to establish a distinctive presence in India's evolving luxury senior living segment, with a focus on hospitality, independence, wellness and meaningful social engagement.
For those who have already built a life of comfort and accomplishment, Amaya offers a different measure of luxury: greater freedom, fewer everyday obligations and more time for the things that make life fulfilling.
About Amaya Senior Living
Amaya Senior Living is a luxury, hospitality-inspired independent senior living community developed by Vera Vita Living LLP in Medchal, Hyderabad. Located alongside the Kandlakoya Reserve Forest, the development brings together premium residences, a 35,000 sq. ft. lifestyle clubhouse, more than 100 curated amenities, and integrated hospitality, wellness and healthcare services. Binance's latest security data highlights how artificial intelligence and multi-layered protection systems are addressing these concerns in real-time.
How Binance's AI Stopped $4.6 Billion in Losses
Binance's AI-assisted risk systems check activity in real time and flag threats before they reach users, powered by more than 100 AI models working across anti-fraud and anti-scam controls. In H1 2026, these systems intercepted millions of scam and phishing attempts, blacklisted more than 42,000 malicious addresses, and issued over 14,000 real-time warnings every day.
These models now make 80% to 90% of real-time risk decisions, with human reviewers stepping in on the cases that need closer judgment. Together, these measures protected more than 8 million users globally and prevented approximately $4.6 billion (₹38,640 crore) in potential losses worldwide.
"These numbers represent real people whose savings were protected and families who avoided financial devastation," said SB Seker, Head of APAC, Binance. "Each prevented loss matters, especially in emerging markets like India where crypto represents a significant portion of many families' savings."
Binance's 8-Level Account Protection
Binance employs an eight layered system built on a real-time risk detection engine, designed to keep the crypto experience smooth and secure across the platform.
1. Multi-channel notifications: When suspicious activity is detected, Binance alerts users via email and in-app messages.
2. OTP verification: Sensitive actions require a unique, time-sensitive one-time password, so login details alone aren't enough for an attacker to proceed.
3. Roaming verification: Logins or actions from a new device, location, or unusual IP address trigger additional verification.
4. Passkey authentication (FIDO): Binance supports passkeys, a device-bound cryptographic login method (via Face ID/Touch ID) that is highly resistant to phishing and password theft.
5. Facial recognition: For higher-risk actions, facial recognition is required.
6. Forced logouts: If account takeover is suspected, Binance can force a hard reset, logging out all active sessions across devices so users can reset their password and secure the account.
7. Single withdrawal rejection: A suspicious withdrawal can be blocked individually. Users are notified, and can retry after additional verification if it was them.
8. Withdrawal function block: At the highest risk level, withdrawals may be temporarily paused as a final safeguard. Withdrawals resume only after security checks and confirmation from the account owner.
This layered approach ensures legitimate users experience smooth transactions while potential threats face multiple barriers.
$1 Billion SAFU Fund: Emergency Protection for Users
The Secure Asset Fund for Users (SAFU) is an emergency reserve that Binance set up in July 2018. SAFU funds protect user assets in extreme cases, such as security breaches or platform-level incidents. As of 2026, the fund holds approximately $1 billion (₹8,400 crore).
SAFU is a safety net for when other protections fall short, kept separate from operational accounts. If a security incident causes users to lose funds, Binance may use SAFU assets to compensate affected users.
Empowering Users Through Education
Binance's systems can stop millions of threats, and SAFU funds are in place for extreme cases. But no system can make every decision for users. Users decide whether to click a link, share a verification code, or approve a transaction. That makes users the last line of defense. That's why Binance focuses on giving users the knowledge to make that call with confidence.
Scams change quickly, so Binance's security blog series breaks down emerging scam tactics as they appear, with 10 deep dives published since the start of 2026. There's also a consolidated guide, which puts the key lessons in one place. For those who'd like a more structured approach, Binance's free Binance Academy course on managing risk teaches users how to protect themselves. Pick whichever works for you—the outcome is the same: knowing what to watch for.
"Users are the last line of defense," Seker explained. "No system can make every decision for you. Our goal is to provide knowledge so users can make informed choices with confidence."
Security as a Shared Responsibility
While Binance's systems monitor threats continuously, the company emphasizes that security is a collaborative effort. Users are encouraged to:
- Enable all available security features on their accounts
- Stay informed through security education resources
- Remain vigilant about suspicious links, messages, and requests
- Never share verification codes or passwords with anyone
As cryptocurrency adoption expands in India and globally, Binance's H1 2026 security data demonstrates how advanced technology, substantial financial reserves, and user education can work together to create a safer digital asset ecosystem.
About Binance
Binance is a leading global blockchain ecosystem behind the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume and registered users. Binance is trusted by more than 300 million people in 100+ countries for its industry-leading security, transparency, trading engine speed, protections for investors, and unmatched portfolio of digital asset products and offerings from trading and finance to education, research, social good, payments, institutional services, and Web3 features. Binance is devoted to building an inclusive crypto ecosystem to increase the freedom of money and financial access for people around the world with crypto as the fundamental means. As awareness grows, more parents are asking a harder question than "Which car seat looks good?" They're asking, "Which one will actually protect my child in a crash?"
Loopie, a premium baby-gear brand founded by Akriti Gupta and featured on Shark Tank India, was built to answer exactly that. The result is the convertible Loopie Lap, Loopie's baby car seat in India.
Child car seat safety matters because the physics are unforgiving. In a collision, an unrestrained child, or one in a poorly secured seat, faces a much higher risk of serious injury. A properly certified, correctly installed car seat is one of the most effective ways to protect a child on the road. That is why certification is not a marketing detail for Loopie. It is the starting point.
The Loopie Lap carries UN ECE R44/04 certification, the European safety standard for child restraints. It is engineered with a 5-point harness and grows with the child from birth to around 12 years (0–36 kg), across Groups 0+/1/2/3, in both rear-facing and forward-facing modes, so families invest once in a seat that keeps protecting their child at every stage.
Why R44, and not the newer R129? It was a deliberate call. Gupta says India is more ready for an R44, for two reasons.
- The cars: R129 is primarily designed for ISOFIX-compatible cars, which works well in Europe, where the market moved to ISOFIX-only cars a while back. India still has both types on the road.
- The rules: R129 requires babies to stay rear-facing up to 15 months. With child-restraint rules only loosely applied in India, Gupta believes most families would not follow that requirement in practice.
R44 does not test for side impact, so Loopie added it to the Lap itself: integrated side-impact protection, plus extended side wings that add coverage around a child's head, neck, and upper body. In her words, the result is "a strong, cozy, full-coverage car seat which is right for India.
Loopie has also designed the Lap for the reality of Indian cars. Because ISOFIX anchor points are not mandatory in India, many global car seats do not fit local vehicles. The Lap installs both ways securely, via ISOFIX with Top Tether or the standard three-point seat belt, so it is compatible with the full range of cars on Indian roads, not just premium models.
Safety should never be a luxury or an afterthought; it should be the baseline," said Akriti Gupta, Founder of Loopie. A car seat is the one piece of gear standing between your child and the road. Parents deserve to know it's been held to a real, recognised standard, and that it will actually fit the car they drive. That's the promise we built the Loopie Lap around.
Certification is only part of the picture. Even a certified seat protects a child only when it is used correctly: the harness should sit snug, the seat should be firmly secured with ISOFIX or the seat belt, and young children should ride rear-facing for as long as the seat allows. Small habits like these matter as much as the label on the box.
When choosing any car seat, parents should check three things: a recognised safety certification, a secure fit in their own car, and a seat that suits their child's weight and age. The Loopie Lap is built around all three.
The Loopie Lap convertible car seat is available at the Loopie website and at Loopie retail locations.
(ADVERTORIAL DISCLAIMER: The above press release has been provided by VMPL. It also expects free cash flow to decline slightly compared with 2025.
According to Reuters, around 50 stores were attacked during the first day of unrest, with several looted and damaged. The company said the damage was considerable, while employees and business partners faced distressing situations.
The unrest has disrupted trading at a critical time for the retail sector, as the fourth-quarter shopping period begins. Consumer confidence was already weak due to high fuel prices, and the ongoing disturbances have further affected customer footfall at stores.
The retailer's finance chief said the direct costs included stolen or destroyed merchandise, damage to stores and equipment, and losses arising from outlets being forced to close. The company also expects continued disruption in the coming weeks, with some stores operating for shorter hours because of curfews.
Reuters reported that many of the retailer's approximately 6,000 stores across France were closed in anticipation of further unrest, including on Sunday and Monday. The company did not disclose the total number of outlets shut.
Costs have also risen as stores strengthened security arrangements, including hiring external security guards. The retailer was among those significantly affected because of its extensive network of convenience stores in major cities such as Paris, Lyon and Marseille.
The company's chief executive called for improved security during the next round of planned protests on October 24, while acknowledging that further business disruption could not be ruled out.
The impact of the unrest has also prompted the retailer to reduce its investment plans in France. It lowered its capital expenditure forecast for 2026 to €1.6 billion (USD 1.80 billion) from €1.7 billion (USD 1.91 billion).
The company had been preparing to launch its Black Friday sales events in the coming days, adding to concerns over the timing of the disruption, Reuters reported.
